Making a Difference

Achieving a Healthy and Caring Community

Feeding Healthy Minds at Lossie

School years are often described as being the best years of one's life, but they can also be a stressful experience for many young people.

Over the last year NHS Grampian and the Council have piloted a new programme called Healthy Minds at Lossiemouth High School and its four feeder primaries.  The main aims of the project are to:

raise awareness of mental health throughout school communities, including pupils, parents and staff
provide training for identified staff to enable them to support young people better and create better links to specialist services
develop a 'mental health toolkit' to provide trained staff with a guide for understanding young people's mental health.

This programme has been so successful that it is now being rolled out across all other schools in Moray.

What will I change as a result of this programme (teacher feedback):

"Look at my own mental health and reach out when required"

"Adopt a more tolerant, sympathetic approach to 'difficult'  young people."

"Be more sensitive to a child's cry for help."
