Warm Welcome for Kerbside Recycling

Since the first kerbside service was rolled out in Forres, Findhorn and Kinloss in September 2004 over 88% of all households in Moray have been supplied with recycling containers.  Each household in the scheme has been given a blue box for paper-based products, an orange box for cans and glass, and a brown wheelie bin for garden waste.

The service has been very well received throughout Moray, with requests from different areas to be included in the scheme.  In the past year the collections have been extended to include four new areas at Mosstodloch, Portgordon, Duffus and Alves.

Alternative weekly collections are carried out for the green domestic bins and the brown garden waste bins, with weekly uplifts of the blue and orange boxes.  The public response has been very positive, resulting in high levels of participation.  Consequently, the recycling rate has increased and the amount going to landfill greatly reduced.
