Making a Difference Protecting and Enhancing the Environment Home Composting Reaches New Heights Over the last 12 months there has been a major push on encouraging home composting as a way of reducing the amount of green waste going to landfill. By offering rural householders a free compost bin and selling them to kerbside recycling householders at a greatly reduced price, over 544 compost bins have now been delivered. Two of the Council's recycling officers attended a composting course run by HDRA Garden Organic. This means they have been able to carry out home and school visits within the area. Hand in hand with the compost bins, the Council also promotes the sale of Green Cone food digesters as a way of disposing of all food waste, both raw and cooked. Over 300 green cones were sold in 2006/07.
