The Scottish Emigration Museum

The Scottish Emigration Museum is an ambitious new museums, libraries and archives partnership project currently under development through Museums Galleries Scotland. The proposed online resource will draw on a broad spectrum of materials including records, objects, images, oral histories etc. tell the lively and passionate story of Scottish Emigration with all its successes and failures. It will go beyond the dry facts and engage users on an emotional level, offering a unique digital resource which will be the first of its kind. We are now at the exciting stage of inviting institutions across the country with emigration related collections to get involved.

This short online survey is intended to provide an overview of emigration related materials in Scotland’s museum, library and archive sectors. It should not take more than about 15-minutes to complete. The results from the survey will feed into a series of focus groups throughout Scotland to be held in June. Both this initial survey and the focus groups will help us to design a final comprehensive survey, to be conducted later in the summer. The final survey questionnaire will map out a comprehensive picture of emigration related material in Scotland’s museum, archive and library collections.
